June Events

Praise be Jesus Christ, now and forever.

During June we will have two major events of note. First of all, there will be a closing Mass for St. Michael’s Church on Thursday, June 3rd at 5:00 p.m. Bishop Boyea will preside at this special Mass in which the church will be officially closed. It will be a concelebrated Mass and many of the priests who have connections to St. Michael’s will be present. Catholic Charities will continue to be present at St. Michael’s and there will still be a chapel there. It is a consolation for me to know that the Blessed Sacrament will remain in the place where our Catholic faith began in this region.

There will also be a major Mass for our Catholic Community of Flint on Sunday, June 13th at 11:00 am on the grounds of Powers Catholic High School. We are trying to expand our understanding of the Catholic Community of Flint. In the future when we speak of the Catholic Community of Flint we are expanding to include the parishes of St. Pius X, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Christ the King as well as the parishes that already make up the Catholic Community of Flint. There will be a Saturday night Mass at 4:00 p.m. at St. John Vianney for those who would not be able to attend the outdoor Mass. (This Mass will be under a tent so we are a go, rain or shine.) The purpose of this Mass is to bring to the attention of all Catholics, especially those who have not been attend- ing Mass due to the pandemic or who have simply wandered away that we (that is the Church) are a Community dedicat- ed to Jesus Christ. There is only one Sacrament. It is the Church. The Church gives us access to Jesus Christ. In some ways we have been lulled into a parochial mentality in our American Catholic Church. The beating heart of the Church is the Eucharistic presence of the Lord. There is One Lord, One Church and One Baptism. We are not in competi- tion with each other. We share the One Table of the Lord and at times we forget who we are, because division allows us to avoid one another. So on that One Sunday we will have One Mass and we will celebrate as One Community. Bring someone you know that has not been with us on Sun- day. There will be no other Mass on June 13th in Flint. We priests will concelebrate, the most important change in the Mass at Vatican II. There is One Priest and He allows us to share in it. We will have some food for you after Mass and we will hopefully get to know each other better. Please make the sacrifice to be there. May Holy Mary, Mother of Flint pray for our unity, our Church.

You are all in my prayers and heart. Fr. Tom
