Mission Cooperative Appeal

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Mt 28:19)

Each year the Parishes of the Diocese of Lansing are invited to participate in the Mission Cooperative Appeal Program during the summer months.

The purpose of the MCP is two-fold.

  • First, many Mission Dioceses, Religious Congregations, and Lay Organizations, serving in the missions, receive a chance to personally appeal for prayer and financial support from our Parishes.

  • Secondly, as Catholics we have the opportunity to increase Missionary Awareness, and to learn about mission life today. The visiting Missionary offers the opportunity for the people to reflect on their vital role in the universal mission of the Church to spread the Gospel and the need to strengthen their concern for their brothers and sisters around the world as a part of their baptismal call.

In light of the worldwide pandemic, for the safety of all concerned, it was decided that we would not be inviting guest missionary speakers into the parishes this year. However, we do not want those in the most dire need to suffer as a result of this decision. The impoverished people of God, in countries all around the world, have also been deeply affected by the pandemic and continue to need our help and prayers.

The Department of Communications has developed a short video message to be played at your parish in lieu of a face to face speaker. We hope that this message will encourage you, if you are able at this time, to pray for and donate toward our longstanding, core mission groups. All funds collected will be combined and divided equally among these groups. For your convenience the option to make a donation online is available through the Diocese of Lansing website https://www.dioceseoflansing.org/make-a-gift.

Please join us in the continued support of our Missioners and the tremendous work of Christ Jesus that they undertake.
